More about XPERMIT®

If you need more information or have further questions, contact us using the Contact Form on the website.

What do we mean by “Advanced Encryption Standard”?

We use 256-bit AES to encrypt an XPERMIT File.

This is an industry encryption standard widely used by companies and governments around the world to protect confidential Files and classified information.

If your device (or the device of a contact you’ve sent XPERMIT Files to) was stolen, impounded by law enforcement authorities or hacked and your XPERMIT Files were removed, relax. XPERMIT Files won’t open unless you give permission and they can’t be decrypted by force.

What do we mean by “No Additional Costs”?

We designed XPERMIT so that anyone could be up and running in minutes with just our App and nothing else.

Unlike our competitors, you don’t need to add expensive software or hardware to run the system and anyone receiving an XPERMIT File doesn’t need to pay a thing to open it either.

All you and your contacts need is the XPERMIT App on your device and that’s it.

What “Common File Types” does XPERMIT protect?

Word, Excel, PowerPoint, PDF, Photos (JPEG, PNG) and our own Secure Note.

Secure Note is a quick way of sending a private message that is not traceable as part of a ‘conventional’ email thread or text conversation on your device.

We plan to support more file formats in the future.

What do we mean by “Cross Platform”?

XPERMIT works on iOS, Android, Windows, macOS and Linux. So whether you are in the office, working from home, out “on the road”, or just sharing your stuff with friends, you can be confident when using XPERMIT that your PCs, Macs, Tablets and Smartphones can deliver the privacy and control you need.

What do we mean by “Works with Everything”?

XPERMIT files are just regular files that can be used with all email clients, sharing apps, video-based apps, collaboration software as well as physical, networked and cloud-based storage devices/media.

XPERMIT works with all file management and backup software.

What do we mean by “Complete Privacy”?

When we talk about “Complete Privacy” we mean 5 things;

  • Our Advanced Encryption System secures your XPERMIT Files.
  • XPERMIT Files can only be opened by people you choose and nobody else.
  • Permissions (including open only once) controllable at any time with immediate effect.
  • XPERMIT File content cannot be posted on internet/social media sites.
  • Your XPERMIT Files are never stored by us anywhere on our systems.

If your device (or the device of a colleague you’ve sent XPERMIT Files to) was stolen, impounded by law enforcement authorities or hacked and your XPERMIT Files were removed, relax. XPERMIT Files won’t open unless you give permission and they can’t be decrypted by force.

XPERMIT Registration and Accounts

  • You register once with XPERMIT on first use of the app. Our Privacy Policy details what information we collect, why we collect it and how we use it. You don’t need to re-register if you uninstall, re-install or update XPERMIT.
  • You can have multiple registrations but each one must have a unique email address and password.
  • You can use up to five devices per (email) registration with XPERMIT Pro (paid-for) or two devices with XPERMIT Basic (Free). These can be different devices running XPERMIT on different platforms.
  • Whilst you can initially install either an ‘XPERMIT Basic (Free) account or an ‘XPERMIT Pro’ (paid-for) account, you can change between these at any time using My Account.
  • You can de-register from the XPERMIT service completely in which case the XPERMIT Files that you have already shared will continue to open for those users you have authorised. You will not be able to modify permissions, create new files or open XPERMIT files if and after you de-register.
  • We do not collect, store or process any of your personal data concerning payments and authorisations. These are handled by your own payment provider.
  • Further, more detailed, information can be found in our Terms of Service, Privacy and Acceptable Use policies on our website.
  • Please note that because different email clients can deal differently with automated messages, don’t forget to check your ‘junk’ or ‘spam’ folders for XPERMIT emails to you.

  • An internet connection is required to create, control and open an XPERMIT File.
  • If you share an XPERMIT File with a contact that doesn’t already use XPERMIT they will automatically receive an invitation to register and install ‘XPERMIT Basic (Free). Once they have accepted this invitation they will be able to open any XPERMIT Files for which they have permission.

  • The XPERMIT App produces an independent, self-contained, encrypted file that:
    • is open-only and cannot be edited (or updated) by you or your contacts
    • can only be opened within an XPERMIT App
    • can only be opened by those to whom you give permission
    • cannot be printed by you or your contacts
    • can be shared anyway you like
    • cannot be unprotected
    • does not affect or otherwise modify the original source file
  • You can control permissions of your XPERMIT Files in the app or, track, trace and control them (by File and by Contacts) in My Account in the XPERMIT Pro version.
  • You can recognise XPERMIT files in your file system by one or more of the following:
    • ‘xp’ as the last two characters of the file extension e.g. AProtectedWordDoc.docxp
    • a distinctive icon
    • a file type/description e.g. ‘PDFXP File’
  • Renaming an XPERMIT File does not affect the permissions attached to that file.
  • There can be a number of reasons why you may not be able to open an XPERMIT File:
    • XPERMIT not installed
    • user not registered or registration is temporarily suspended
    • incorrect XPERMIT sign-in credentials (username and/or password)
    • do not have permission to open the XPERMIT File
    • have previously opened the ‘open only once’ file
    • exceeded the 5 devices allowed for your registration
    • not an XPERMIT file
    • no internet connection
  • There are no ads or in-app purchases within the XPERMIT app and periodic updates are provided free of charge for you to install.
